The two-month training period begins with a physical exam. Objective: To improve candidates’ physical readiness for the demanding work they will face in Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S).

Preparatory school ends with a modified physical screening test (PST). The test is a 1000 meter swim, a push, a pull up, a sit down and a four kilometer run.

Candidates who fail the longer, more rigorous test are withdrawn from training and reassigned to other roles in the Navy.

The Naval Special Warfare Preparatory School utilizes the swimming pools, indoor and outdoor trails, and other facilities located near Naval Station Great Lakes, the Recruit Training Command. Its personnel and curriculum fall under the Naval Special Warfare Center.

The BUD/S orientation is a three-week course that introduces candidates to Coronado, the Naval Special Warfare Center, and the BUD/S lifestyle. During training, Navy SEAL instructors familiarize candidates with BUD/S physical training, obstacle course training, and other specialized training areas. This part of the training is intended to prepare candidates for the First Day of the first phase.

The first phase, the basic fitness phase, lasts seven weeks and develops the team through physical training, aquatic skills and mental toughness, while they continue to build teamwork -‘ oh Each week, the team is expected to run, swim and do more calisthenics than the previous week and perform each man is measured by a timed run in kilometers, a timed obstacle course and a two-mile swim.

The fourth week of training is known as Hell Week. During this demanding period of five and a half days, each candidate sleeps only about four hours, but runs more than 200 kilometers and trains more than 20 hours a day. Successful completion of Hell Week truly defines candidates with the commitment and determination required to be a SEAL. Hell Week is the ultimate test of male will and teamwork.

The second phase, the diving combat phase, lasts seven weeks. This category represents the underwater skills unique to Navy SEALs.

At this stage, candidates become basic combat divers and learn to dive both open and closed. Successful phase two candidates demonstrate high comfort in the water and the ability to handle stressful and often uncomfortable activities. candidates who are not completely comfortable in the water often struggle to succeed.

The Making Of A Navy Seal

This phase lasts seven weeks and includes basic weapons, demolitions, terrain movement, patrolling, reconnaissance, marking and small group tactics.

The other half of training is on San Clemente Island, about 60 miles from Coronado. On the island, the group uses the skills they learned in the third phase.

A low score will allow you to begin training with your Navy SEAL / SWCC Scout Team during your late entry phase. The SEAL Mentor program used in the past is no longer available. During the Deferred Entry Program (DEP), you will be screened by a team of trained PST recruiters and the rest of the recruitment process.

Navy Seals’ Training: How To Fix

To determine if you have earned the SEAL/SWCC contract, your PST scores will be ranked nationally and only the best PST score (average score or higher) will complete the required credits for that boot camp cycle. Called the Navy Spec War Draft, this program creates a ranking system for top athletes who enter camp as SO candidates. Scheduling the program gives the SEAL/SWCC candidate more time to properly train before boot camp.

At the Navy Recruit Training Center (navy boot camp), SEAL candidates begin their training with a 10-week Navy boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois.

Since the BUD/S Prep Program, formerly in the Great Lakes, is now located in Coronado, California, you will then be flown there to begin your initial training at the BUD/S campus. You take PST one last time. If you do not pass, you will be expelled from the program before the end of the first week of training.

BUD/S Prep is a five-week training program followed by a two-week Naval Special Warfare training program and immediate assignment to BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL) training. The purpose of BUD/S Prep is to focus on physical conditioning and prepare you well physically for BUD/S after you’ve lost weight in boot camp. At the end you will have to take another fitness test
